About

Founded in Copenhagen in 2004 as Over the Edge Entertainment by David Helgason, Nicholas Francis, and Joachim Ante, Unity became the most widely used game engine, powering a majority of mobile games. It went public in 2020, weathered a 2023 runtime-fee controversy that cost CEO John Riccitiello his job, and former EA and Zynga executive Matt Bromberg took over as CEO in May 2024 to rebuild developer trust.

Position in GenMedia

Unity's 2026 strategy centers on generative AI: an upgraded Unity AI (beta unveiled around GDC 2026) aims to let developers prompt full casual games into existence with natural language, native to the editor. Its AI assistant uses OpenAI and Meta models for code generation and agentic actions, and Bromberg is also pushing AI-driven game discovery and ad tech through its Vector AI advertising platform.

What they're hiring

Staff ML engineer for generative world models, neural rendering, and multi-modal AI ($218K–$328K) — the other major game engine building AI-driven gaming at platform scale.
